MCGREGOR, Texas (October 17, 2014) — First National Bank McGregor today announced that it will celebrate its 125th anniversary at a public event on Thursday, November 6, 2014 in its downtown McGregor location from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Established in 1889, First National Bank McGregor is the oldest bank in McLennan County and the seventh oldest national bank in Texas still operating under its original charter, issued on July 16, 1889. The bank has served Central Texas for seven generations.

“We are celebrating the bank’s 125th anniversary throughout 2014, “ said First National Bank McGregor’s president, David Littlewood, “But we believe inviting the public to a charter celebration, almost like a birthday party, is the perfect opportunity for us to say thank you for their support and trust in our meeting their financial needs since 1889.”

Expected to attend the bank’s anniversary celebration are friends from all over Central Texas, local and state elected representatives, banking industry officials and dozens of FNB McGregor bank customers from several area counties. This includes the soon-to-be centenarian Jeanette McGinnis, who opened her account at First National Bank McGregor when she was a teenager, and only a few years after women were awarded the right to vote by the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

“How much more loyal can you get than banking with us throughout your lifetime, as Ms. McGinnis has?” said Littlewood. “We want to recognize her loyalty as a customer, and give others a chance to hear her describe memories of watching Central Texas develop into the strong community-based area it is today.”

Also included in the guest of honor list for the November 6 event are representatives from organizations nominated as candidates for the First National Bank McGregor Charity Champions program. The bank launched this initiative in July to benefit charitable efforts in the Central Texas community, while commemorating the bank’s 125th anniversary. Since then, three winning nonprofits have been selected from a total of 27 nominated organizations. CASA of McLennan and Hill Counties, AVANCE Waco and Generations Adoptions have each been recognized at Baylor University football games played in McLane Stadium during its inaugural season. During 2015, First National Bank McGregor will cover costs associated with a 360 Solutions executive leadership development series to further the organizations’ missions.

“Three additional First National Bank McGregor Charity Champions will be announced before the end of the 2014 football season,” said Littlewood. “We want to honor all of the candidate nonprofits by inviting them to attend our bank’s anniversary celebration on November 6.”

The public is invited to enjoy an evening of food, music, networking and the celebration of 125 years worth of history with First National Bank McGregor at 401 S Main St, McGregor, TX 76657 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm on Thursday, November 6. Media members are welcome to attend and conduct interviews before, during or after the event. In addition, historic photos of both the bank and the City of McGregor are available upon request.
