WACO, Texas (August 22, 2014) — First National Bank McGregor today announced the first Central Texas non-profit named as a Charity Champion for the fall 2014 season: Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of McLennan and Hill Counties. As a Charity Champion, CASA representatives will receive training to help the non-profit reach its goals and a publicity blitz to raise awareness about the organization, including recognition on the field of McLane Stadium during the Baylor home football game played on August 31, 2014.

CASA volunteers serve as an advocate for children caught up in the state’s Child Protective Services and foster care legal systems. In Central Texas, CASA of McLennan and Hill Counties currently serves more than 240 children and is in need of additional financial support and volunteers.

“We are delighted to be named a Charity Champion, because it will help bring needed attention to the hundreds of children who need help in Central Texas,” said the CASA executive director, Susie Wimberly. “In a moment, a child can be pulled from everything they understood, and we want to be there for them.”

First National Bank McGregor’s president David Littlewood said the bank launched the Charity Champions program to develop leaders within non-profit organizations like CASA of McLennan & Hill Counties that are working to make a lasting positive impact on the Central Texas area.

“We chose CASA as a Charity Champion because First National Bank McGregor truly feels their volunteers’ advocacy for children is invaluable,” said Littlewood. “Their mission echoes the purpose of the Charity Champions program.”

In early 2015, First National Bank McGregor will cover costs associated with each organization’s participation in executive training provided by 360 Solutions.

“Training like this was previously cost preventative, but will now help our staff understand their capacity to lead,” said Wimberly.

Publicity for Charity Champions includes a live presentation during a Baylor home football game at McLane Stadium during its inaugral season, a video about each organization’s mission, promotion in print, online and social media platforms, and coverage before each game on ESPN radio.

The next 2014 Charity Champion chosen will be announced during the September 6, 2014 Baylor home game played at McLane Stadium.

About CASA

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of McLennan and Hill Counties is a local chapter of a national organization that works to make certain the voices of abused and neglected children are heard. Its volunteers get to know a child by talking with everyone in that child’s life, and use the information they gather to inform judges and others of what the child needs and what will be the best permanent home for them.
