FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FAC-logo-WinnerWACO, Texas (October 24, 2014) — First National Bank McGregor today named Family Abuse Center in Waco a Charity Champion, recognizing its important work protecting abused adults and children, serving residents throughout eight Central Texas counties. It is the fourth nonprofit this year to be recognized by the bank for its efforts to improve lives within our community.

“We see on a daily basis the unspeakable hurt that people are experiencing at the hands of those they love,” said Family Abuse Center executive director Kathy Reid. “We are working to not only make it stop, but to empower the victims, both adults and children, to choose a better life for themselves, one that is violence-free. Because love shouldn’t hurt.”

As a Charity Champion, Family Abuse Center will be the focus of an awareness campaign sponsored by First National Bank McGregor. This includes broadcast, print and banner advertising, as well as social media. Representatives from the nonprofit will also be honored on-field in McLane Stadium during the Baylor University football game on November 1. To further the reach of Family Abuse Center’s work, First National Bank McGregor will also cover costs for its staff to attend executive leadership training with 360 Solutions in 2015.

“Being named a Charity Champion is so important to us, because it will help us increase our most important need, which is awareness of our services,” said Reid. “360 Solutions’ training will provide information that is invaluable to us and show us ways to better meet the growing needs of those we serve. One of those continual needs is twin blankets, towels and pillows for the women, men and children we shelter.”

“When you look at the hope that Family Abuse Center brings to some of the most desperately hurting individuals in our Central Texas community, it’s clear how irreplaceable this organization is,” said First National Bank McGregor’s president David Littlewood. “The selection of this nonprofit as a Charity Champion was based upon the vast number of lives it is working to save and improve.”

ABOUT FAMILY ABUSE CENTER

Family Abuse Center was founded in Waco in 1979, and to date it has helped an estimated 6595 adults and 5395 children in McLennan, Bosque, Hill, Falls, Limestone, Freestone, Navarro and Ellis counties. Its mission is to eliminate domestic violence in Central Texas by sheltering the victims of domestic violence and by preventing abuse from occurring through intervention and education. The center offers support to the victims of domestic violence, to enable them to regain self-esteem, plan a new future for themselves and choose a life free of violence. It provides education to the community and to area schools to help interrupt the intergenerational cycle of domestic abuse and reduce the social acceptance of it.
